I just LOVE Pinterest but I thought I might share a recipe fail with you. I really liked the idea of a grilled strawberry shortcake recipe and looking at the recipe, I also really liked the marinade that went on it. BUT, what I did not like is how it fell apart! I love grilling almost everything and I think this could be a very good recipe, so I may work on this again. IF you have had any luck with this type of recipe I would love to hear from you!
INGREDIENTS
1 store bought shortcake loaf or pound cake (I used pound cake)
1 package of strawberries washed
wooden skewers (soaked in water)
ORANGE MARINADE
1/2 teaspoon orange zest
1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Small pinch of salt
Vanilla ice cream optional
DIRECTIONS
Spray grill with non stick spray. Preheat grill to medium heat. Thread strawberries and cake on the skewers, alternating.
Mix marinade ingredients. Place skewers on grill brushing with the marinade and grill for 30-60 seconds per side.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
The flavors were all there but not with the cake falling apart the way it did!
