As you all know by now I don’t really like to bake, but one of the things I have learned is that my family loves home made cookies much more than the store bought. When I saw this recipe I knew immediately that was going to be the next cookie I make. Sure enough, I made these cookies sooner than later! We all enjoyed these. I really like the addition of the toffee bits and the pop of white chocolate was just right! These lasted less than two days at our house… but we did share!
DIRECTIONS
2 sticks of unsalted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking solda
1 (8 ounce) bag of toffee bits
1/2 to 3/4 bag of white chocolate chips
1 cup of old fashioned oats
DIRECTIONS
Using a mixer, cream together butter, sugars and vanilla on medium speed. Add the eggs to the butter mixture and mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, salt and baking soda together. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture on low speed. Once combined mix in the toffee bits, white chocolate and oats and mix with a large spoon until well combined. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about one hour. When ready to bake preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Drop dough by teaspoons onto an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 10 – 11 minutes or until the edges of the cookie are lightly browned. Let cool for just a couple minutes on the pan then remove the cookies and place them on a baking rack to finish cooling.
Enjoy!

Do you have kids or loved ones in your life that have allergies? Do you have trouble finding sweet treats that you feel good about feeding your kids? These cookies are simply delicious! I first saw these cookies on NH Chronicle (television program) as they are made in New Hampshire, but the best part is you can order them through Amazon. So no matter where you live you can get them!
These cookies are not soft and chewy, they are crispy and full of flavor! I ordered the 6 box sampler from Amazon for $27.53. They are not super cheap, but I know exactly what is in the cookies and feel good about sharing them! Let’s talk a bit about the allergy piece, these cookies are made in a peanut free, tree nut free, egg free, dairy free, wheat free and gluten free bakery! Not only are they allergy friendly but they are not made with anything artificial! No GMO, whole grain, kosher, vegan, low sodium, no trans fat, no rice, no soy, no corn! Yes, they really do taste good too!
Home Free cookies has several varieties, most of them come in a mini size. The six I ordered were, chocolate chip, mini chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, vanilla, lemon burst and mint chocolate chip. They also have a ginger snap flavor that we did not try. Our favorite was the lemon burst, we all loved these! Don’t get me wrong they are all good but the lemon burst has a great lemon flavor that really comes through!
Home Free cookies have won several awards in 2016 they were awarded the top healthy gourmet snack of the year. Also awarded best gluten free cookie by Good Housekeeping.
Home Free Cookies has a website at www.homefreetreats.com where you can see where the cookies are sold and get more wonderful information about theses delicious cookies. Don’t forget you can get these cookies no matter where you live through Amazon!

This is another fantastic recipe from Taste of Home! This is an easy dish to put together and easy to change up the vegetables to fit to your family tastes. This would be a great summer lunch or perfect for a Mother’s Day or Easter brunch! I just love roasted vegetables so this dish was a big hit at our house!
INGREDIENTS
1 small eggplant, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 large zucchini, cut into 1/4 inch slices
4 plum tomatoes, chopped
1 medium sweet red pepper, cut into 1 inch pieces
4 Tablespoons olive oil, divided
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 sheet refrigerated pie pastry
1 Tablespoon cornmeal
2 Tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese (I used shaved Parmesan)
Fresh minced Basil, optional
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large bowl combine your vegetables, 3 Tablespoons of olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender and the moisture has evaporated. Stir every ten minutes.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out your pie pastry into a 13 inch circle. Sprinkle cornmeal over a greased 14 inch pizza pan (or ungreased pizza stone). Place pastry on prepared pan.
Spoon vegetable mixture over the pastry leaving a 1 1-2 inch edge around the edge of the pastry. Fold up the edges of the pastry leaving the center uncovered. Brush pastry with remaining oil.
Bake at 450 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Sprinkle with cheese. Cut into wedges and garnish with basil if desired.

Enjoy a Taste of Home Tuesday with some of my friends also from Taste of Home. Show them some love!
This week is full of my favorite things and this restaurant is no different! Sonny’s Tavern is located at 328 Central Ave. in Dover, NH. You can also find them on Facebook and also online. Trust me you are going to want to check them out!
Sonny’s is open 6 days a week for dinner and open on Sunday for brunch. We went for dinner and started with an appetizer of jalapeño hush puppies with a whipped maple butter. ($5.00) Sounds pretty good right? A New England style starter for sure. Well, we can tell you Jim and I really enjoyed these, crispy on the outside and soft and full of flavor on the inside. As you dip them into the perfect maple butter that melts slightly with the warm hush puppy, wow…wonderful! As Jim and I enjoyed these we were looking at the people and talking about the vibe that Sonny’s has. Sonny’s is very rustic with a solid group of customers. It seemed everyone knew one another as they came in. We really enjoyed that friendly atmosphere. We also appreciated that as soon as you were seated you had a menu and a jar of cold water at your table.
Sonny’s menu is small and well thought out. It also has various seasonal specials, but one of the things both Jim and I loved most is that you can get a side of salad greens instead of fries with your burger so Jim loves that! So speaking of burgers, you know that’s one of Jim’s favorite things to order, and of course had to try it here at Sonny’s Tavern! Jim had Sonny’s Signature Burger that is made of all natural grass fed beef, cured tomatoes, Benton’s bacon, bibb lettuce, gruyere cheese and pickled red onion aioli! ($14.00). Sounds good right? Well, it was just as good as it sounds and cooked to Jim’s liking, I didn’t even have to ask him how it was as it was gone in no time!
I had one of the specials of the night. I had the fish
tacos with a pineapple, mango salsa with a spicy aioli. This dish came with two tacos and full of great flavor and texture. The light battered crisp fish with sweet fresh salsa with a small punch of heat with the aioli! This was a delicious dinner that they are considering keeping on the menu, I am hoping they do as that was a terrific fish taco!
Let me tell you a little more about the menu, I have told you it is small and rustic but it really has so many things that you will recognize and some dishes that are different or with a twist! One of the appetizer selections is deviled eggs. We have all had those but not the way they make them. They have a rotating selection that they offer and must be a big hit as we saw a number of customers ordering them. Or maybe you would like a fried brussel sprout taco? They have those too.
You can also build your own burger or order their surf and turf. Let me tell you about the surf and turf as it sounds amazing! You get a pomegranate BBQ hanger steak with pineapple glazed shrimp, toasted grits and collard greens! That dish alone will bring me back to Sonny’s!
I mentioned they have Sunday Brunch, you need to check out that menu too! It’s a small menu with some great choices. You can get your tropical French toast or a breakfast burrito, but how about chorizo and grits with two placed eggs? Or maybe a Croque Monsieur/Madame? Or if your looking for something even heartier maybe steak and eggs, but if you want something light they have options there too, granola and yogurt would be a great choice. We can’t talk about brunch without mentioning Sonny’s own “Build your Own” Bloody Mary along with the usual coffee, tea and juice!
As you can see Sonny’s Tavern has a lot to offer at a reasonable price with a great rustic vibe! Go ahead and give Sonny’s Tavern a try and a Facebook like to see some of what’s going on there!
