I know many of you have been to the BRGR Bar in Portsmouth N.H. at 34 Portwalk Place. For those of you that have not, I highly recommend getting there! Jim and I went on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch and as most of you know by now, you know Jim’s love for a good burger! Not only do they have an amazing selection of burgers but they are also known for the adult milk shakes! Is an adult milkshake a cocktail or a dessert?! Either way they are fantastic! So let’s start with the burgers. They have a great selection for you to choose from or you can build your own burger. We figured since they are the BRGR Bar they know best, so we both ordered one of their choices. I had the OO-Mommy Burger for $13.50 and Jim had the Brazen Brazen Burger also $13.50. Both of these burgers were very tasty!
My OO-Mommy Burger had gorganzola, bacon jam and crispy fried onion rings. This burger was HUGE! The waitress recommended taking off two of the onion rings. I followed her advice and I’m glad I did! This burger was huge and so full of flavor. The onion rings were huge, crispy and added such a great crunch to the burger. The bacon jam gave the salty sweet flavor and I love gorgonzola and putting that all together on a juicy burger..I now know how this burger got its name! This burger was really good and I would have that again anytime and I’m not really the burger person in the family! The burger’s also come with a little bucket of house fries. Those were also very tasty! Crispy and golden and salted just right!
Jim’s Brazen Burger had braised short ribs, spicy ketchup, tomato, a fried egg and cheddar cheese. Jim devoured this burger I am amazed I even got a picture! I swear, I took the first picture, took one bite of my burger, and looked over and his burger was gone! I don’t think I have to say too much more when a plate disappears that fast it says it all! Remember I mentioned the adult milkshakes? Well we could not possibly go here and not try them! I had the Apple Pie Ala Mode ($10.00) This was made with house infused apple cinnamon bourbon and it was really tasty! It definitely had an apple pie flavor going on! Jim had the root beer float made with spiced rum and root beer liquer,($10.00) Jim’s was much stronger tasting than mine, but also very good!
Neither one of us had a problem drinking those, very tasty! They serve more than just burgers here . They have some great looking appetizers. The person next to us ordered the Buffalo Brussels Sprouts with a warm gorgonzola dip and it looked AMAZING! I will be ordering those next time! They have so much yummy food to pick from. How about some dirty fries or chicken wings. Maybe you want a pork belly wedge salad? No matter what you get there it is no doubt it will be excellent! I can’t wait to make a trip back!
Enjoy!
With summer around the corner the thought of sitting on the deck with a cold beverage and friends brings a smile to my face. If we add a cheese ball made with beer and a little bit of orange zest that is going to make the afternoon even better! I used Blue Moon because that’s what I had and like but any beer with notes of orange would be great!
INGREDIENTS
5 ounces softened cream cheese
1 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
1/3 cup asiago cheese, grated
1/2 of one scallion white and green part, diced
1/3 cup of Blue Moon beer
1 pinch of garlic salt
1 Tablespoon of orange zest
1/2 cup of chopped pecans
DIRECTIONS
Add all of the ingredients except the pecans into a mixing bowl and mix until fully combined. Roll the mixture into a ball, cover with plastic wrap and Place in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up. When firm remove from fridge and roll in the chopped pecans. Store in fridge until ready to eat. Serve with assorted crackers.

This is a simple, delicious side dish that was gone almost as fast as I put it on the table. This is made on the stovetop and would be a great compliment to any dinner time. I used the mixed colored potatoes and just tried to cut them into even sizes so they cook for the same amount of time. You can certainly use all little red potatoes, but I just could not resist all of the beautiful colored potatoes my store had !
INGREDIENTS
6 red potatoes, cubed
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 Tablespoons butter
1 1/2 Tablespoons brown sugar
Garlic salt to taste
Pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Bring potatoes, water, butter and brown sugar to a boil in a pan over medium high heat. Turn the heat to low and simmer for about five minutes. Turn the heat back to high and cook until all of the water has evaporated and potatoes are tender. About another 10-12 minutes depending on the size of your potatoes. Remove from heat and add garlic salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

When I was in Key West, there was this fabulous little Cuban convenience store that made and sold some of the most delicious pastries! This little store was in walking distance from where we were staying, so we found ourselves getting up and walking over for coffee and pastries. When I got home, I described this pastry to Jim and he did not look excited in the least about it. But he changed his mind and very quickly at his first bite of my re-creation! He LOVED this, and loved it so much I made them again a couple days later and they vanished just as fast as the first batch!! These are so simple and oh so tasty!!
INGREDIENTS
One box frozen puff pastry, thawed according to package directions.
Guava paste or any flavor fruit paste. I used plum (found in the gourmet cheese area of your store)
Mascarpone cheese (can use cream cheese)
1 egg plus teaspoon of water.
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and unroll one of the puff pastries placing it on your baking sheet. I made 8 pastries so slice your fruit paste into eight sections and spread them evenly, making two lines across the pastry sheet leaving enough room on all sides to seal. Add a sliver of the marscarpone cheese on top of each of your fruit paste slices.
Top the entire thing with the second sheet of puff pastry. Using your hand gently push the puff pastry down making 8 pastry pieces. Be sure to seal the puff pastry VERY WELL so the filling does not run out when baking! Mix the egg and water together making an egg wash and brush over the tops of the pastries. Sprinkle with sugar and bake for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is browned and cooked through. Let cool for five minutes. Serve warm.
Enjoy!
I’m always looking for a quick simple side dish and this one was just that, not to mention really good. But you know me I love any roasted vegetables and this is no different. I ate this as a side dish but Jim and a friend of ours had this on top of my grilled Southwest Burgers and they loved it that way. You can have this any way you want and I know you will like the fresh flavor as much as we did!!
INGREDIENTS
1 pound cherry tomatoes, halved
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup Panko crumbs
2 Tablespoons melted butter
2 Tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the broiler leaving the oven door open slightly. Combine the tomatoes, garlic and olive oil in an 8 inch baking dish. Season with salt and pepper. Broil stirring occasionally until the tomatoes are softened…about ten minutes. Combine the panko and melted butter, sprinkle over the tomatoes and broil for an additional minute, add basil to the top and serve warm.
