I told you yesterday how we were camping and at a shoe making retreat, well the class ended Sunday morning so after all that work we were ready for a drink and a lunch out! We found ourselves in Belfast Maine and while walking along the water front we came across Front Street Pub!

We opted to sit outside as they have a dog friendly patio and it was a gorgeous Maine day! We started with our drinks. Jim got a Corona beer and I had their Rum punch. Both drinks hit the spot after a long few days!
Front Street Pub does offer local craft beer on tap along with house infused liquor. They also have happy hour with food specials.

Jim was in the mood for some shrimp to start our lunch so that’s what we ordered to share! We ordered fried shrimp with cocktail sauce (10.99). These shrimp were delicious, crispy but light at the same time. I don’t always like cocktail sauce but the sauce they served was just right, a little tart, a slight bit sweet and paired perfectly with the fried shrimp. Great start to our lunch!

For my main course I ordered the Haddock basket served with French fries and coleslaw along with tartar sauce on the side (13.99). When the dish was put down in front of me all I could say is WOW! My first thought was how big this fish was and how in the world could I possibly eat it all! The haddock was just as tasty as the shrimp. It was crispy and flakey and so tender. I dipped the haddock in the tartar sauce and each bite was perfection! The French fries were nothing to laugh about. The fries were crispy and tender and served hot out of the fryer. I also had a side of coleslaw although it was good it was not my favorite, I have learned I am picky when it comes to slaw and there is one particular restaurant in NH that has my favorite. I would order this dish any day of the week! Overall everything was excellent!

Although they do have hamburgers on the menu Jim surprisingly ordered the haddock sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onion and tartar sauce. This also came with fries. (13.99).
Jim’s eyes got big when he saw the size of that sandwich but he was up for the challenge! Jim loved his sandwich, he said the fry on it was just right, crispy and flakey just as mine was. He enjoyed the fries as much as I did. Those fries are also Nazzy approved!

You can find front street pub at 37 front street in Belfast Maine. Front Street Pub is open seven days a week starting at 11 am. They offer pub fare with hand cut fries, home made slaw and locally sourced seafood from Penobscot Bay including lobster and haddock.

You can find more information and the full menu online or you can check them out on Facebook as well!
We spend a couple weeks a year in this area and will be coming back to Front Street Pub many times to come!

Enjoy!

Cai’s Dim Sum was a take out stop for us while we were in Vermont. We had driven by Cai’s several times but did not know much about it so we decided to give it a shot! Cai’s Dim Sum is located at 814 western Ave in Brattleboro Vermont. They only do curbside pick-up (or cater events) I will say we were a little skeptical at first as it does not look like much on the outside but don’t let that deter you! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

There is a lot to love about Cai’s Dim Sum but not only are they a family run business that started at a farmers market in 2006 but they get their produce from local farms, that is a huge plus for us as we try to support farms and family businesses every chance we get. Anytime we go to small businesses we also make a point to pay cash as we all know how much the credit card companies charge fees that seem to keep rising for businesses. On to the food!

I ordered the Pork Riblet Abundance Box. Pork riblet’s served with stir fry vegitables and local greens over jasmine rice with a scallion pancake on the side. Everything about this dinner was just right. The riblet’s were so tender, the veggies so fresh and the rice cooked to perfection! The scallion pancake was crispy yet tender very good. This was a large plateful of dinner, so much so I had it again he next day. It re heated extremely well.

Jim ordered the chicken stir fry with fresh local vegetables over jasmine rice and two dumplings. My picture does not do justice for Jim’s dinner. Not only did Jim enjoy his dinner but the few bites I had were delicious the chicken was super tender and of course those fresh veggies and perfectly cooked rice. I did not try the 2 dumplings it came with but I know they were delicious with how fast they disappeared. Jim also enough for the next day as well.

Cai’s Dim Sum is truly a hidden gem and a place we will be frequenting when we are in town. Cai’s has a website with the full menu, hours of operation as well as catering information.

Enjoy!

We came across this tiny little bakery while traveling through Vermont in our motorhome, it was well worth the stop! Sticky Finger Bakery is located at 210 VT. Route 100 in West Dover, Vermont. Sticky fingers Bakery opened in 2010 and have won several awards including best of Vermont for their cinnamon rolls.

Let’s talk about those cinnamon rolls! Let me start by saying they are huge and made from scratch daily. They are fresh and sweet, tender on the outside with a nice crisp on the outside. Sweet but not too sweet but enough to curb that sweet craving! This alone was worth the drive!

I also purchased one of Jim’s favorite sweets! A Cherry danish and a lemon danish! The lemon danish did not make it out of the parking lot! I was able to get a bite of the lemon and it was so good. A bit crispy, sweet and filled with plenty of tart lemon! I did not get a chance to try the cherry danish but Jim assured me it was excellent.

The last item I purchased was an individual size chocolate mousse. This was so rich and creamy, it was the perfect size dessert. I would buy all of these desserts again plus some! This happenes to be an area we travel through a couple times a year so I am looking forward to going back time and time again!

Sticky Fingers Bakery although it’s the smallest bakery I have ever been in it’s also one of the mightiest bakeries filled not only with pastries, cakes, cookies or croissants they also make breads, dinner rolls, black olive garlic bread, pepperoni and mozzarella bread but also pizza by the slice or whole pizza.

Sticky Finger bakery is open 7am-4pm Thursday through Monday, you can place orders 24 hours in advance as they do sell out they also cater special events. If you are in passing through Vermont you will not be disappointed with anything you decide on. They also have a couple picnic tables outside for patrons to use.

Enjoy!

Bricks and Sticks Food Truck located at 45 Steamboat Ave. in Searsport Maine, I have so much to say about this place! While we were at one of our favorite campgrounds in Searsport we asked the campground owners about where the locals go to eat for lunch or dinner. They mentioned a couple places including Bricks and Sticks food truck. They mentioned that you could sit outside and enjoy the water. This was exactly what we were looking for and a huge bonus we could have our pup with us.

After doing some exploring in the area we were hungry and ready to eat! This food truck has specials each day they are open with lots of seafood options along with wood fired pizza by the slice or whole pizza’s.
The day we went they had a scallop basket as the special that included French fries and coleslaw and a side of tartar sauce. These were some of the biggest scallops I have had. They we sweet with a light crispy coating on them. Absolutely delicious, the fries and slaw were also very good but my focus were those delightful scallops. It was an absolute feast! ($22.00)

Jim was hungry and his eyes were bigger than his stomach but he could not decide so he got the fried fish sandwich along with a slice of meat pizza. Let me just say the picture you see is what they consider one slice, it was huge and filled with toppings! The pizza was excellent. Thin crust with a crispy bottom filled with cheese and toppings. One of the best pizza’s I have had in a long time!

The fish sandwich was also on the large size. Jim really enjoyed his sandwich. His fish was beautifully fried with a light batter and moist fish. Jim loves fish sandwiches and this one did not disappoint. Sitting at the picnic table enjoying the view with an absolutely perfect lunch experience!

Bricks and Sticks has a Facebook page that they update with the specials of the day. They are open Wednesday through Sunday and closed Monday and Tuesday. They are open from 12pm to 6 pm and I can tell you they are constantly busy. The entire time we were there they had a line! They are a cash only business so keep that in mind if visiting.

They have a regular menu , a rotation of Pizza’s and various specials such as whole belly clams, 1/2 BBQ smoked chicken, calzones, even chicken parm!

Sticks and bricks also has dessert! We could not have possibly eaten dessert on the day we went but they have plenty of choices think cheese cake, pineapple dream pie or tiramisu!

If you find yourself anywhere near Searsport Maine give Bricks and Sticks a try you will not be disappointed, terrific food with a great view. Don’t forget to look the, up on Facebook for updates information.

Enjoy!

Now that we are fully retired we are finding ourselves going out to eat with friends and family. I don’t feel like I am cooking quite as much. Last week we went out for Mexican food with our good friends Randy and Rosalie who are also retired. This week we decided on Chinese food at one of Randy and Rosalie’s favorite places. We tend to leave the house around 3:30 to beat the dinner crowds and the past few times we have gone out we have found ourselves ordering several appetizer’s and Sharing, we did the same when we went to Wok the Wok in Hampton NH. Wok The Wok is located at 7 Ocean Blvd. in Hampton NH. It’s just across the street from Hampton Beach.

We started with one of Rosalie’s favorite drinks from Wok The Wok, 3 of us had the Mai Tai’s and Randy opted for a glass of red wine. The mai Tai’s are made with orange juice pineapple juice and 2 types of rum.
They were absolutely the perfect way to start our afternoon.

We ordered all appetizers except the coconut shrimp, it’s a house special and one of Rosalie’s family favorite dishes. I can see why, this shrimp dish was delicious. It was lightly battered jumbo shrimp cooked in a sweet sauce then topped with a creamy coconut sauce. Crispy and sweet in every bite.

We also had the appitizer size portion of the Dan Dan Noodles. Let me say these pack a punch! This was my first time having this dish but won’t be my last. They definitely have a lot of spice but there is also a slight cooling Taste of peanut butter in the sauce. Delicious!

All of our dishes came out at the same time but these scallion pancakes became Jim’s new favorite dish after just one bite. They are crispy on the outside, a little chewy on the inside and served with a sesame dipping sauce adding a little salty bite to the scallion pancakes.

We also had an order of Beef Teriyaki, this happens to be one of Randy’s and mine favorite dishes. These did not disappoint. Lots of teriyaki flavor and cooked to perfection. These were some of the best I have had.

And last but not least we ordered the pork fried rice to round off our meal! The rice pulled all of our dishes together perfectly. Our plates were full and our bellies fuller! Believe it or not we had very little left over. Not one complaint, everything we had was fabulous. Wok the Wok is open 7 days a week. You can find the full menu and prices on line.

After eating such a big meal we decided to walk it off at Hampton Beach state park that is just across the street from Wok The Wok on a gorgeous spring day. If you are cruising through Hampton give Wok the Wok a try you won’t be disappointed.

Enjoy!
